Change starts with acceptance. Perception affects our acceptance, there for drastically affecting our will to change. In our office, we see weight perception problems or the inability to grasp the affects unhealthy weight excess has on the body and health. Carrying extra weight affects the body and health, we all know this, so how can we determine if we’re actually over weight or not?
A great starting place will be to find out what your BMI, Body Mass Index, is by using the calculator bellow. Our BMI is calculated by using our height and current weight. People with a BMI ranging between 25 and 29.9 are considered overweight and people with a BMI of 30 or higher are considered obese. Our BMI number isn’t the only variable that determines our weight healthy, but, it’s a powerful number to know and understand.
What does your BMI tell you, are you overweight? If the answer is yes, there are many ways you can obtain a healthy BMI. Talking to your doctor about your weight issues and your desire to lose weight is a great place to start. Your doctor can guide you in ways your body can work its way to healthy BMI numbers. Finding a healthy balance is key in controlling hunger, which leads to healthy choices. If diet, exercise, supplements or support groups aren’t getting the job done there may be other factors affecting your weight. Consult with your doctor about what these factors are and ask about options. Ask about other alternatives such as the LAP-BAND® System.
The LAP-BAND® System is a procedure Dr. Keith McEwen strongly believes in. He’s philosophy is going beyond the procedure and working with his patient in making healthy weight loss choices.
