Larry’s first visit was in June, 2016. Weighting 543 pounds, Larry faced a number of weight related health issues, an umbilical hernia being one of them. In addition, Larry’s BMI was too high for the Lap-Band and he didn’t want the gastric-by-pass or sleeve. Dr. McEwen and his dietician, Lauren, created a dietary plan to help him drop the necessary weight. Over the course of 6 months, during his supervised dietary weight loss period, Larry learned what life post-surgery would be like: what to eat and not, what to do, realistic goals, etc.

Pre Lap-Band surgery, Larry worked hard at meeting all the requirements, for insurance and medical. His determination to change his life, change his relationship with food, and get healthy granted him the loss of over 80 pounds. A huge success! Learning Portion Control.
What’s the #1 thing you wish you knew before getting your LB?
Nothing that I can think of, Dr. McEwen and his team explained everything before and answered any questions I had.
Advice on adjusting to the pre-op diet and staying focused?
Try the different shakes/flavors and find the one that works best for you. I personally like Premiere Protein the best.
What’s the #1 thing you wish you knew after getting your LB?
Nothing that I can think of, Dr. McEwen and his team provided all the necessary information.

So far, what has been your favorite part of your LAP-BAND® weight loss journey?
Being able to do things my weight prevented me from doing before and feeling sooo much better.
Any tips/advice on staying focused and motivated post-op?
Portion Control – Portion Control – when you have the sensation of being full push the plate away, its OK to NOT have to clean your plate.
What has become your new favorite LAP-BAND® approved foods?

- Cauliflower Crust Pizzas with Turkey Pepperoni & FF Mozzarella

In order to get the best results from your LAP-BAND – YOU MUST CHANGE YOUR LIFESTYLE AND EATING HABITS. You have to want to do this for yourself in order to succeed. Also, having a great support team of family and friends to help keep you motivated.
