  1. I want to say a few words about Dr. McEwen. I didn’t have a lapband surgery, but Dr. McEwen WAS my surgeon for a hernia operation a couple of years ago.

When I first met with him, he sat down with a legal pad of paper and drew me pictures of what he was going to do and how he was going to do it. That impressed the heck out of me, that a surgeon with his high reputation would take this extra time to explain what needed to be done. Maybe all surgeons do this; I don’t know (I don’t make a habit out of having surgery if I can help it ***grin***). But it made me feel more confident that he knew what he was doing.

I remember on the morning of the surgery, I was sitting in a waiting room at the outpatient center at Community North. I had been dressed (or UNdressed, as it were!) in my surgical gown and prepped for surgery, and I was just sitting there waiting with my wife for the whole process to begin.

I was surprised when Dr. McEwen appeared in the waiting room and proceeded to explain to us exactly what was going to happen and how long he estimated that it would take. Maybe all surgeons do this; I don’t know. But I remember that his style and personality immediately made me feel more at ease.

I was in early that morning, home by just past noon. That includes the time “under.” I was very impressed by the whole procedure from start to finish. Imagine doing something like this on an outpatient basis just 20-30 years ago.

Call it what you will, a good “bedside manner” or whatever, but this guy seems genuinely nice in addition to being an excellent surgeon. I highly recommend Dr. McEwen if you need any of the surgical procedures in which he specializes!

Thank you so much for sharing! You are like the luckiest penny that I have ever found:)

I not only work here, but Dr McEwen has operated on me. Working for a surgeon is one thing but having surgery is another. He explained EVERYTHING TO ME also which impressed me:)
